Reporting a bug

The most useful bug report includes the game’s log files and a sentence about what you were doing when it went wrong.

1. Press Win + R, paste the folder below and press Enter.
   • Full game: %APPDATA%\Sandscape\
   • Demo: %APPDATA%\Sandscape Demo\
2. Attach log.txt, log.old.txt and, if it is there, crash.txt to your email.

Common questions

The game won’t start, or the screen is black

Update your graphics driver first. If that doesn’t help, choose a graphics backend by hand: in Steam, right-click Sandscape, choose Properties, and in Launch Options type --backend dx12. If that is worse, try --backend vulkan. Clear the box to go back to automatic.

Where are my saves? Do they sync?

Your saves are in the saves folder inside the game folder listed under “Reporting a bug” above (for example %APPDATA%\Sandscape\saves\). On the full game, your saves sync between your computers through Steam Cloud. Settings such as resolution and volume stay on each computer on purpose, so a laptop doesn’t inherit a desktop’s 4K fullscreen.

It runs slowly

In Settings → Graphics, lower Render Scale, set a Frame Cap, or turn Shadows off. A smaller board size (S or M in the sidebar) also helps.

How do I play on Steam Deck?

The Deck’s controls work out of the box: right trigger paints, left trigger erases, the bumpers change material, and the left stick moves. To change any of it, open Settings → Controls → Controller Bindings.

Does my demo progress carry over to the full game?

No. The demo keeps its saves in its own folder, so the two never overwrite each other.
